Physical Description:
Being an Arabian Leopard, Kallisto is on the smaller end of the scale as far as leopards go. Her fur is dry and wispy... it almost reminds you of the desert. Her spots are solid for the most part and her tail thin. There is an unusual tuft of hair on the top of her head, and a distinguishable trait of hers is her bright blue eyes. Kallisto's nose is long and broad on her angular face.

Lonely // "I don't get along well with people."
Kallisto is lonely for two reasons. Firstly, because she is often too shy to approach other cats. Secondly, oftentimes Kallisto fears that she's bothersome or off-putting. Instead she distances herself instead of being outgoing.
Shy // "..." *kneads ground anxiously*
Kallisto gets all kinds of anxiety around other cats, and currently never is the first to start a conversation with anyone but a select few (such as Tryn). She worries too much about everything she does and how it will affect other cats.
Ill-Tempered // "I said, LEAVE. ME. ALONE."
Kallisto can be a bit of a hot head to deal with. She can be impatient, but she never really means any harm. She's just moody. You won't see Kallisto acting loudly towards you unless she's comfortable enough with you, since she's shy with strangers and is more likely to get up and walk away from a situation when a stranger is involved.

First impressions greatly shape how Kallisto thinks of you. She judges somewhat harshly. Kallisto judges herself cruelly as well.

Kallisto is a cat that finds herself in long expanses of time in which her thought patterns are gloomy and dark. Sometimes they're borderline depressing. These bouts of darkness are often unexplained, but they cause Kallisto to become recluse and even snappy.

Kallisto has a great memory, and picks up facts and tidbits quickly. While not social suave, Kallisto has a love for learning and knowing about the natural world, and some of her favorite moments are when she basks in its beauty.
Considerate // "I don't want to bother you, or be a hassle."
Kallisto, despite being ill-tempered and impatient, will usually put others before herself. This stems from her own self-depreciation, not some kind of humility tactic. Keeping others happy at her own expense seems logical enough to her. This is especially true of her friends and family. They are what make life worth living, after all.
Vengeful // "I will track them down and kill them."
Right now Kallisto isn't too happy with hunters... going hand in hand with his quickness to judge, she isn't taking spites against her lightly.
Callous // "You're complaining about rain, when I had to take down a buffalo by myself just to defend our watering hole?"
You won't be getting much sympathy from Kallisto, especially if you disagree with her views. Her views themselves are rather callous... but that's what happens to wounds, they callous over.
History
Past History:
Kallisto doesn't remember much of living outside the Fire Empire. The most she knows comes in dreams, flashbacks of a plush lifestyle and blood. At the age of 3 months old, she was taken into the notoriously brave and regal clan of gladiators. But Kallisto's story begins back before her life with the Empire cats.
The little Arabian Leopard was a rarity; perhaps that's why she and her parents were so revered. Her father, Bion, was a talented and senior Bounty Hunter. Meanwhile, Aspisia was a heavily-guarded pet and breeder back in the city. Aspisia was raised a wildcat, however, and was sold to the Romans by an Arabic animal trapper. Her only goal in life was to escape back to her feral life, and time and time again she came close.
To bad the Bounty Hunters were always hired to track her down. After dozens of escapes and recaptures, Bion was hired as a personal guard to Aspisia's family. He found instant attraction to the pet, but saw her as too wily and stupid to waste any time with. Eventually, the family grew comfortable having the extra Arabian leopard in the home, and requested that he breed with their female. In exchange, the owners would give the cubs to the Hunters and sell the less useful ones to the pits of money or off to homes as pure-bred pets.
That is the reason behind Kallisto's conception. Aspisia was in hysterics over her pregnancy, not wishing for her cubs to grow up in a world so possessive and cruel. Suffering from multiple mental illnesses including anxiety and depression, Aspisia felt completely hopeless, but still she planned one final grand escape. When Kallisto and her siblings were begin to wean from their mother's milk, Aspisia led them away out of her palace one night, carrying Kallisto, who was the smallest. It wasn't long before her absence was noticed, and Bion, leading a group of Bounty Hunters, were sent after her.
Aspisia took the tunnel systems, and somehow managed enough ground to escape the city without being caught. She realized that the chances of her escaping to freedom with her children were slim, but she continued on anyway, praying to her own foreign gods for help and protection. It was at this time that a storm broke, and Aspisia's trail was lost in a wash of heavy rains. It at least gave her a couple extra hours.
The Leopardess' three cubs were exhausting, but she hurried them onwards. Unaware of the Empires territories, eventually she reached Skyview Clearing in the Fire Empire territory. Her cubs collapsed, exhausted, and succumbing to her own anxieties, Aspisia killed them in an attempt to preserve just one: Kallisto, whom she carried the entire journey. She didn't have to stop or slow now... That had been her logic. Their deaths brought about an increased chance of survival for her and her daughter. And they wouldn't have to suffer in the pits or become like the Roman cats Aspisia so despised.
But it was then that Bion and his patrol arrived. He looked at what Aspisia had done, realizing that not only would the humans not be pleased (as they were to return all the leopards, cubs and mother, alive), but that Aspisia had taken the lives of his children. And spared the runt. Enraged, he approached Aspisia with aggressive words, but did not lay a paw on her. Instead, she realized with horror that she could not bare to go back. Placing Kallisto down, she thrust the cub towards her father, and turned quickly. She hurled herself down the cliffs around Lake Blackwater. She died with a sickening crack as her body hit stone, and Bion picked up his daughter and left with his patrol.
It was on his way back to the city that a Fire Empire Patrol attacked them. The Hunters were hurt and scattered. Accidentally, Bion had left his daughter after the fray, believing that another cat had grabbed her. Tryn, a eurasian lynx who accompanied the patrol that attacked the hunters, found the exhausted and shivering leopardess amongst the grass, and took the little thing in as her own daughter.

Suffering from issues such as anxiety and loneliness, Kallisto began to grow up with the Fire Empire cats. One of the first cats she met (and eventually befriended) was Shadow, a somewhat gloomy lion cub. Together they made a habit of sneaking to Sky View clearing, although Kallisto has no recollection of what occurred there.
As time continued and Kallisto approached a year old and still had not applied herself towards apprenticeship, Tryn began to wonder why. Pressured by her mother's gaze, Kallisto soon became apprenticed. It was not long after, however that Soren met his fate at the paws of the hunters. The new apprentice became difficult to teach; as hard as she tried, she was sloppy.
Not only that, but she began to disassociate from her friends and family. Small-scale anxiety attacks plagued her. There was nothing she feared more than being lost to a hunter... and she felt shameful because of it. What kind of empire cat let herself get worked up to the point that it effected those around her? Chepa was patient with the leopardess... But just when it seemed that she made progress, who should Kallisto meet but Scaeden himself.
One fateful night, she met the former leader on the shores of Blackwater. He was searching for his scarf, unbeknown to Kallisto. She learned two things from him: that Soren was truly dead, and that Scaeden, his murderer, was Soren's brother.
Her spirit already weakening, the new crushed Kallisto. She told only one other cat, Andromeda.
Not long after, Kallisto's mentor, Chepa was assumed captured and killed by a Hunter patrol. She was reassigned Theodoron, the Fire Silver.
In the month following her run-in with Scaeden, Kallisto hardly left the Apprentice den, much less the camp. Her friend Shadow, however, slowly weened her of her reclusive state, and she decided to leave camp. Kallisto found her way to Central Island, where she met the Air apprentice, Ari. She liked his spunk and assertive nature. During the next gathering, she was thrown out of her comfort zone, but met up with Ari again. Shadow was made a gladiator, and Kallisto is proud of her friend.

When the Great Battle was announced, Shadow was chosen as one of Andromeda's Assassins. While Kallisto continued her training as usual, Shadow became busier and busier. The thought that Shadow was training to kill other cats unsettled Kallisto, and it wasn't long before she wondered if the green eyes she saw in her nightmares were Scaeden's… or Shadow's. The little leopardess' escape from her worries was Boreas, and the pair grew closer than ever before.
The night of the battle, just as the assassins were heading out, Shadow broke ranks for just a second to find Kallisto and give her a hug. He whispered three words that together shook Kallisto's soul. I love you. The leopardess was frozen in shock, and Shadow scurried to catch up before she could say anything herself.
For the next few hours all Kallisto could do was worry about her best friend, and suddenly she felt very guilting for avoiding him for the past couple months. What if he never came back? Panicked, the leopardess darted to the apprentice den where she asked Boreas to help her put her armor on. Kallisto would make sure Shadow came back! Just then, though, the hunters attacked the Fire Empire camp. With one last hug goodbye to Boreas, she asked he look after the camp and snuck off, following the path of the assassins.
After warning the Empire cats at the stakeout point, she gathered a small patrol to make their way to the city themselves. Once they arrived, Kallisto thoughtlessly ran through the fog and towards the open gates. She was intercepted, however, by Kleio, who saw Kallisto as easy pickings. The leopardess fought bravely, but was simply not a match for the experienced hunter. Exhausted, the apprentice could hardly defend herself when Kleio went for the final blow, slicing a gash from Kallisto's left hip up her underbelly. It only took a couple seconds after for Kallisto to fall unconscious.
It felt like a lifetime of darkness before she felt the sun again. She remembers complete quiet, and Shadow's scent, and perhaps whispering 'I love you' herself before she fell unconscious again.
Kallisto woke a couple days later, with Shadow by her side. He told her everything, about how he'd found her and fought off Kleio, and how Andromeda had named her a gladiator on the battlefield… j-just in case. It was clear Shadow wasn't too happy about the alternative.
The healing process was long, but Shadow and Boreas and her other friends helped Kallisto recuperate. One day, when she and Shadow were on a stroll together to stretch her legs, he asked to be her mate and presented two rings he had Abella forge. Happy and only a little nervous, she said yes.
Disappearance:
It was soon after Kallisto and Shadow became mates that they realized Kallisto wasn't able to carry cubs. The pair was devastated. Kallisto specifically took it quite hard, seeing it as another failure on her part. But Shadow persisted and attempted to convince his young mate that he didn't blame her for any of it. Try as he might, Kallisto couldn't bring herself to believe him.
Only a few moons after she'd heal up from the war wounds she'd endured, and the infertility trauma was still dwelling on her mind, Kallisto accidently found herself face to face with a caravan of traders. She was overwhelmed and kidnapped.
It took a moon of travel before she would be free of her cage again. Kallisto was beyond frightened and lost when the caravan of traders took her from the lush empire of Rome to the deserts of Saharan Africa. She wasn't sure what they wanted her for, and prayed day after day that it was a dream, or that Shadow would come and find her and take her back to Fire Empire.
It never happened.
Instead, she was bartered off to a human in the desert. But the leopardess was not about to belong to any monstrous human. She escaped her bindings just in the nick of time, and fled into the desert.
As pre-adapted to arid places as she was, Kallisto was a stranger in a strange land. She wandered for days, thirsty, hungry and lost. She tried to read the stars to return home but she couldn't recognize any, and couldn't recall the direction of Rome in comparison to the sun, as she'd been caged during travel.
One night, she collapsed. She was afraid to die, and afraid to be alone in such a strange place. She cursed the gods... but just as her vision was fading, a figure appeared in the blurriness.
When Kallisto came to, she saw a bowl of water in front of her, along with a group of leopards such as a herself. The leader of this tribe took her in and explained to her their ways.
From that point on Kallisto was reborn.
She learned to cooperate with a local group of humans that treated the leopards as allies, and also learned what was needed to surive in the desert. She became colder, stronger, and less forgiving, but still retained a longing for home. But her new family filled her heart, and they also did not know the route to 'Rome'. And so for a year she stayed and slowly learned to accept her new hand. She and the leader, Hubris, soon grew close through her dependency on him to learn the strange dialect and culture of his people. As Hubris and Kallisto grew closer and she grasped a better understanding of Swahilli, she began calling him Pumbavu, or Bavu for short, a term that means (endearingly) 'idiot'. Life became easier.
That is, until, one day. When the Romans came back.
Interested in the human tribe's "tame" leopards for their fights, the tribe was targeted and essentially wiped out. Many of Kallisto's prowl was captured, excluding Hubris. Enraged, Kallisto wanted to instantly follow the Roman caravan back to free their people, but Hubris was more hesitant. When he suggested they wait, Kallisto agreed... Only to sneak off while he slept.
She followed the tracks as far as she could before she eventually lost them at the Mediterranean sea, but from there she recognized the stars.
Determined, Kallisto headed for her old home, mind set on extracting her vengeance. Meanwhile, her heart had other goals, and she'd be lying if she said Shadow hadn't crossed her mind. But she was different now, and it had been so long... he deserved a cat who could give him cubs. And what of Andro and Fire Empire? That didn't need to get caught up in her revenge. There was also a twinge of fear and doubt in her heart when she thought of Fire Empire, but she couldn't place why. Perhaps it reminded her too much of negative things, of the war and of Scaeden and of her own shortcomings.
No. Stone Empire. They'd help her. The last time she'd heard from them Laraetes was leading them against the hunters. They were probably the only ones tenacious enough to help her, or in the very least, not stop her from attempting a large scale rescue mission.

• They reunite and catch up; Boreas thinks she's coming home

He whispered three words that together shook Kallisto's soul. I love you. The leopardess was frozen in shock, and Shadow scurried to catch up before she could say anything herself.
For the next few hours all Kallisto could do was worry about her best friend, and suddenly she felt very guilting for avoiding him for the past couple months. What if he never came back? Panicked, the leopardess darted to the apprentice den where she asked Boreas to help her put her armor on. Kallisto would make sure Shadow came back! Just then, though, the hunters attacked the Fire Empire camp. With one last hug goodbye to Boreas, she asked he look after the camp and snuck off, following the path of the assassins.
After warning the Empire cats at the stakeout point, she gathered a small patrol to make their way to the city themselves. Once they arrived, Kallisto thoughtlessly ran through the fog and towards the open gates. She was intercepted, however, by Kleio, who saw Kallisto as easy pickings. The leopardess fought bravely, but was simply not a match for the experienced hunter. Exhausted, the apprentice could hardly defend herself when Kleio went for the final blow, slicing a gash from Kallisto's left hip up her underbelly. It only took a couple seconds after for Kallisto to fall unconscious.
It felt like a lifetime of darkness before she felt the sun again. She remembers complete quiet, and Shadow's scent, and perhaps whispering 'I love you' herself before she fell unconscious again.
Kallisto woke a couple days later, with Shadow by her side. He told her everything, about how he'd found her and fought off Kleio, and how Andromeda had named her a gladiator on the battlefield… j-just in case. It was clear Shadow wasn't too happy about the alternative.
The healing process was long, but Shadow and Boreas and her other friends helped Kallisto recuperate. One day, when she and Shadow were on a stroll together to stretch her legs, he asked to be her mate and presented two rings he had Abella forge. Happy and only a little nervous, she said yes.
Disappearance:
It was soon after Kallisto and Shadow became mates that they realized Kallisto wasn't able to carry cubs. The pair was devastated. Kallisto specifically took it quite hard, seeing it as another failure on her part. But Shadow persisted and attempted to convince his young mate that he didn't blame her for any of it. Try as he might, Kallisto couldn't bring herself to believe him.
Only a few moons after she'd heal up from the war wounds she'd endured, and the infertility trauma was still dwelling on her mind, Kallisto accidently found herself face to face with a caravan of traders. She was overwhelmed and kidnapped.
It took a moon of travel before she would be free of her cage again. Kallisto was beyond frightened and lost when the caravan of traders took her from the lush empire of Rome to the deserts of Saharan Africa. She wasn't sure what they wanted her for, and prayed day after day that it was a dream, or that Shadow would come and find her and take her back to Fire Empire.
It never happened.
Instead, she was bartered off to a human in the desert. But the leopardess was not about to belong to any monstrous human. She escaped her bindings just in the nick of time, and fled into the desert.
As pre-adapted to arid places as she was, Kallisto was a stranger in a strange land. She wandered for days, thirsty, hungry and lost. She tried to read the stars to return home but she couldn't recognize any, and couldn't recall the direction of Rome in comparison to the sun, as she'd been caged during travel.
One night, she collapsed. She was afraid to die, and afraid to be alone in such a strange place. She cursed the gods... but just as her vision was fading, a figure appeared in the blurriness.
When Kallisto came to, she saw a bowl of water in front of her, along with a group of leopards such as a herself. The leader of this tribe took her in and explained to her their ways.
From that point on Kallisto was reborn.
She learned to cooperate with a local group of humans that treated the leopards as allies, and also learned what was needed to surive in the desert. She became colder, stronger, and less forgiving, but still retained a longing for home. But her new family filled her heart, and they also did not know the route to 'Rome'. And so for a year she stayed and slowly learned to accept her new hand. She and the leader, Hubris, soon grew close through her dependency on him to learn the strange dialect and culture of his people. As Hubris and Kallisto grew closer and she grasped a better understanding of Swahilli, she began calling him Pumbavu, or Bavu for short, a term that means (endearingly) 'idiot'. Life became easier.
That is, until, one day. When the Romans came back.
Interested in the human tribe's "tame" leopards for their fights, the tribe was targeted and essentially wiped out. Many of Kallisto's prowl was captured, excluding Hubris. Enraged, Kallisto wanted to instantly follow the Roman caravan back to free their people, but Hubris was more hesitant. When he suggested they wait, Kallisto agreed... Only to sneak off while he slept.
She followed the tracks as far as she could before she eventually lost them at the Mediterranean sea, but from there she recognized the stars.
Determined, Kallisto headed for her old home, mind set on extracting her vengeance. Meanwhile, her heart had other goals, and she'd be lying if she said Shadow hadn't crossed her mind. But she was different now, and it had been so long... he deserved a cat who could give him cubs. And what of Andro and Fire Empire? That didn't need to get caught up in her revenge. There was also a twinge of fear and doubt in her heart when she thought of Fire Empire, but she couldn't place why. Perhaps it reminded her too much of negative things, of the war and of Scaeden and of her own shortcomings.
No. Stone Empire. They'd help her. The last time she'd heard from them Laraetes was leading them against the hunters. They were probably the only ones tenacious enough to help her, or in the very least, not stop her from attempting a large scale rescue mission.

• Kallisto runs into Boreas, who has become a vagabond and wanders Fire Territory
• They reunite and catch up; Boreas thinks she's coming home
• Kalli instead asks for Boreas to take her to Stone Empire
• He leads her there, and as they depart, Kalli asks him not to tell Shadow about her
• Kalli joins Stone, explaining how she is in search of her comrades. She doesn't mention past affiliation with the Empires

Not the best fighter, Kallisto makes up for it with her incredible speed and evasiveness. She can tuck, duck, roll, climb and camouflage her way so safety faster than you can get your claws on her.

A skill Theodoron taught her before his disappearance. The former silver noted Kallisto's shortcomings in fighting, and instead taught her some other types of important skills. She knows all of Fire Empire like the back of her paw, and can follow just about anyone, whether she's sneaking on them or following tracks.

Where Kallisto once thought killing to be off-limits, she has since had a change of heart. Ironically, it was the subject of much 'argument' when Kallisto was still with Shadow. Now, she perfected her stealth skill and has even practiced creating booby-traps and snares in order to scramble and scratch her way to success (and survival).
